Arkansas Gov. Sara Huckabee Sanders was on hand for the ribbon cutting at SIG Sauer's new 210,000 sq. ft. ammunition factory in The Natural State.

The Jacksonville, Arkansas Ammunition Center is described by the company as "an ultra-scalable and automated ammunition manufacturing center purpose-built for the U.S Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapons Program." The company is currently the sole source for the Army's new 6.8x51mm ammunition line, which SIG and the service for use in the new NGSW series of small arms developed.

The JAAC brings an estimated 675 jobs to the community with a direct economic impact on the local Arkansas economy.

SIG recently showed off military contract over-run ammo at an industry event in New Hampshire.

The 6.8mm load uses a 113-grain copper solid ball, and is packed in 20-round boxes, 460-round cans, and 920-round crates. With a .330 ballistic coefficient and 3,200 FPS velocity out of a 16-inch barrel, these rounds spec out at 2,569 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle. The case is a brass/stainless steel hybrid that allows for increased muzzle velocity/energy compared to traditional brass. (Photo: Chris Eger)

On hand for the event were SIG CEO and President Ron Cohen, Army officials, and U.S. Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark). When fully online, the facility will be capable of supplying the military with more than 500 million rounds of ammunition annually.

SIG first established operations in Arkansas in 2016 when it relocated its nascent ammunition works from Eubank, Kentucky. In 2021, the company expanded its facility, investing over $12 million in the plant and growing the staff to 260.

Gov. Sanders posted a short video of her visit to the facility, saying, "We understand that the best thing to beat a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. So to Ron and all of the team at SIG Sauer: thank you for believing in Arkansas, and investing in our state."
