Tennessee-based Barrett Firearms Manufacturing continues to rack up awards for their long-range precision rifles with those on the sharp end.

The U.S. Army's Contracting Command in Newark, New Jersey last week announced Barrett had secured a $15 million contract for M107 Long Range Sniper Rifle variants, spare parts, accessories, and training.

The semi-auto .50 caliber BMG M107 was adopted in 2005 by the Army and was an updated variant of Barrett's M82A1, typically paired with a  Leupold 4.5-14x50mm day optic, and hits the scales at 28.5 pounds, with the optic. It was adopted for longer-range engagements at a time when the military was heavily engaged in Afghanistan and Iraq as it outperformed the service's 30 caliber (7.62 NATO and .300 Win Mag) platforms.

Related Gun Review: Barrett M107 Anti Material Rifle for the masses

As described by the Army's Program Executive Office Soldier, "The M107 Semi-Automatic Long Range Sniper Rifle (LRSR) fires .50-caliber ammunition and is capable of delivering precise, rapid-fire on targets out to 2,000 meters. This greatly exceeds the terminal effect capability of the M2010, M110, or M24 sniper rifles. It is especially valuable during military operations in urban terrain where greater firepower and standoff ranges provide counter-sniper capability while enhancing sniper survivability."

Besides U.S. use, Barrett recently won a contract to upgrade the M82A1s that have been serving in the Norwegian army since 1999 to the M107 standard.

The new M107 contract has an estimated completion date of Sept. 22, 2029.

First International Government Contract for MRAD-ELR

While Barrett hasn't commented on the new M107 contract from the Army, it did release a statement concerning its new MRAD-ELR platform. Specifically, that the latter rifle won its first international government contract. While Barrett didn't elaborate on which U.S.-allied nation is getting the new gun, the company did confirm the order will be delivered within the year.

The bolt-action rifle is available in multiple calibers including .416 Barrett and has proven capable of engagements well beyond 2,000 yards – specifically taking second place among 69 international competitors at the 2023 King of 2 Miles competition.

"We are honored to provide these international organizations with the tools they need to secure their defenses and protect their interests," said Barrett CEO Bryan James. "The MRADELR is yet another testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation in the field of long-range precision firearms.”
