Affordable LE Trade-In Glock 17s Feature Upgraded Sights
Glocks are some of the most popular law enforcement handguns in the United States. Glock made its U.S. debut back in 1986 when the NYPD purchased 200 9mm Glock 17Gen 1 pistols.
Fast-forward to 1994, and the entire department had switched to the Glock 17 Gen 2. From that point, the Glock remained at the top of the game, from federal law enforcement all the way down to small, local law enforcement departments.
With such high service numbers and the frequency of Glock generation upgrades, it is easy to see why so many Glocks find their way to the police trade-in market. These two Glock 17 trade-ins represent two difference eras, while both offer upgraded sights.
Glock 17 Gen 2 with Meprolight Sights
First, we have a group of Glock 17 Gen 2s with Mepro Hyper-Bright sights. From 1988 to 1997, the second-generation Glock took the market by storm. The standard 17-round capacity on this 9mm, paired with Glock’s almost mythical reputation for reliability, boosted officers’ confidence in their sidearms.
There's some wear on the finish from being carried in a holster, but these G17s are in great shape considering their age.
This set of G17 Gen 2s is a bit older, considering the line exited production in 1997, but these handguns are still in very good condition. They show signs of wear on the finish – typical of use and time in a holster.
The Gen 2 has the straight grip (no finger grooves) but plenty of texture.
The sights have reached the end of their life, so we're including a set of new Mepro Hyper-Bright sights with these Gen 2 Glock 17s.
The Gen 2 G17 predates the accessory rail and incorporates the straight grip with no finger grooves. The handgun includes one 17-round magazine and features burned-out three-dot tritium night sights. To remedy the burned-out night sights, this package includes a set of brand-new (in the box) Mepro sights.
Glock G17 Gen 5 with Ameriglo Sights
The next set of trade-in Glocks are Glock 17 Gen 5s with AmeriGlo sights. The newest generation of Glock handguns ironically returns to the fingerless grip of the Gen 2 Glocks, as opposed to the third and fourth generations.
The Gen 5 mag release grew quite a bit in size over the Gen 2.
These G17 Gen 5s are also in very good condition, showing nominal signs of use and holster wear. Each handgun includes a set of installed AmeriGlo night sights with the company’s i-Dot system. These sights are a massive upgrade over the traditional plating Glock sights.
The AmeriGlo sights are a nice bonus on this G17 Gen 5.
These handguns also feature the accessory rail, perfect for attaching lights or lasers, and the package includes one 17-round magazine.
Summary
Police trade-in firearms offer a great deal, as the firearms are affordable but often have a lot of life left in them. Whether the firearm is new or used, what matters is that you train on the platform. Take some time to dry fire, grab some ammo, hit the range, and master the craft.
